Oh yeah, it’s FREE

The connection between the bands playing this free Tuesday night show appears to be “music as assault.” There isn’t a single band in this lineup afraid to get ugly, whether it’s Mutating Meltdown’s anti-consumerist synth-organ squelch or ELVIS’ in-your-face apathy. Low Red Center and Coma In Algiers both take cues from proto-industrial alienators Cabaret Voltaire, and though Diagonals’ angular surf guitars and tuneful Farfisa leads might mark them as the odd band out, one look at the lyric sheet for “Neil Diamond Blues”—which details the Jewish Elvis’ preference to fuck, run, and leave the girl his “whole paycheck”—proves the band can offend with the best of ‘em.

Glitter & Doom: NO MAS BODAS Tour Kick Off @ Scoot Inn This Friday

“What better way to kick off our first tour than to anoint our bodies on a drippy dancefloor? And if the prospect of us scattering bubbles and glitter all over the east coast doesn’t tickle you, this night will double as the cd-release party for Archibald Adams (Jeremy of Fiction and Space Cave). To further amp up the situation, Pataphysics and Mos Jeficit will be on hand to make sure your feet know they have to move to the groove.” —- No Mas Bodas

“From May to August, Church of the Friendly Ghost presents a series featuring female artists who push the boundaries of art and music. Too rarely are experimental art and new music events in Austin female-centric. In order to temporarily reject this truth and spark a renaissance, the series will provide several evenings of performance from female artists.

The primary goal is to provide these artists with a space to expand their art form while providing the audience with an panoptic impression of work that some women are producing in Austin and points beyond. Lady Friends, stemming from the desire to experience female performance, will focus on media art, performance art, and music that is thought provoking and original. This series will include experimental bands, filmmakers, solo performers, and improvisers.

Additionally, CotFG aims to contrive a new point of ingression for the female arts community that coincides with a focused forum for discourse and networking. The series will culminate in August with our final show as an evening of improvisational works by an all female cast. Alissa DeRubeis and Amanda Lewis are the principal curators.”
