“What Bill has planned is a piece for oxidized/corroded blank tape,
modulated by compressors w/ low thresholds and high comp. ratios…
imagine destructively compressed, BAD tape hiss, we love it.
Anyhow, this piece is clocking in at 30 minutes.
The other is a sound collage piece for electric guitar, shortwave
radio and electronics. This is new, and Bill felt it might
work into the evenings program after an intermission.
It’s a textural piece emphasizing understated sounds of
the electric guitar, compiled with live found sounds from the
shortwave. ( for an old example of this strategy, listen to rqadii @ www.myspace.com/billbridges )”

Connoisseurs of gritty London-style dubstep will be pleased to hear that DJG is coming to town from San Francisco to play with local bass junkies, The Herd. We’re pretty fortunate to even have a small dubstep scene here in Austin, so this should be a solid show.

“The Austin Museum of Digital Art’s 44th Digital Showcase is a celebration of video games and the art that they inspire. Renown musicians and visual artists will congregate at Club DeVille on September 20th to display art or perform music they have created using video game hardware, music, graphics or coding.
Two musicians from New York’s 8bitpeoples collective will headline the event. Nullsleep and Bit Shifter create their music using the Nintendo Gameboy and other retro video game equipment. The event will also feature live video art by New York-based artist Voltage Controlled, who uses video game hardware to generate his live visual performance.
This Digital Showcase is brought to you in part by the Arthouse at the Jones Center’s new exhibit RESET/PLAY, a critical exploration of the intersection between video games and visual art. The exhibition is on view at Arthouse (700 Congress Avenue) through November 2, 2008.” - AMODA

I’m in San Francisco this week, and finally saw Ghosts on Tape play at 222 (222 Hyde at Turk). You’re asking, “Who in the name of turbo crunk are Ghosts on Tape? They sure do have an awthum name.” Well dear sir or madam, “they” is just “he,” and he is one of the Bay Area pioneers of lazer bass, a jaunty form of electro with all the bells and whistles of hyphy and grime. An unseemly pairing, but this stuff is so fucking dancy you will lose your ass in a cyclone of killer moves. More people in Austin need to give this stuff a try, especially with all those old samplers floating around; I’ve seen ‘em, put ‘em to use! Get off your indie rock pony for a minute and hop on the soaring back of the lazer bass Pegasus. Freal.
