“Friendliest Haunt for Weird Noise” = Church of the Friendly Ghost

Best of Austin 2009
Critics Picks
The Austin Chronicle

Church of the Friendly Ghost was awarded “Friendliest Haunt for Weird Noise” in BEST OF AUSTIN

“Since first appearing in 2003 and floating into new digs at Salvage Vanguard Theater in 2007, Church of the Friendly Ghost has channeled a wealth of creative energy into Austin. Organizer Aaron Mace and associates are tireless champions of the outsider and outré: From bringing in international and national jazz and noise artists to providing asylum for homegrown experimental strains, they’ve cut a nice right angle in our scene.”

ECLECTRO GARAGE SALE @SVT on Sun 8/2

The Eclectro Garage Sale is a collaboration between experimental music nonprofit Church of the Friendly Ghost and radical thriftstore Treasure City. Creative electronic sound artists will perform on the Salvage Vanguard’s stage while a garage sale of Treasure City’s hippest stuff happens in the gallery.

Sunday 8/2/2009
@ Salvage Vanguard Theatre
Doors @ 8pm

Each of the acts use recycled and often unwanted materials in their music.  Jano (thing) Selector mixes old audiotapes into poetic ambient soundscapes. The Furby Youth Choir turns furry electronic toys into circuit bent crooners.  Eric Archer creates sound from light as it passes through old cameras, and the Spaceinvader Orchestra wires together old record players and mixes broken records.
