Bitshifter and Nullsleep to be at next AMODA showcase

“The Austin Museum of Digital Art’s 44th Digital Showcase is a celebration of video games and the art that they inspire. Renown musicians and visual artists will congregate at Club DeVille on September 20th to display art or perform music they have created using video game hardware, music, graphics or coding.

Two musicians from New York’s 8bitpeoples collective will headline the event. Nullsleep and Bit Shifter create their music using the Nintendo Gameboy and other retro video game equipment. The event will also feature live video art by New York-based artist Voltage Controlled, who uses video game hardware to generate his live visual performance.

This Digital Showcase is brought to you in part by the Arthouse at the Jones Center’s new exhibit RESET/PLAY, a critical exploration of the intersection between video games and visual art. The exhibition is on view at Arthouse (700 Congress Avenue) through November 2, 2008.” – AMODA

8-bit Blasters

While perusing the awthum “Happenings” section, I stumbled into a name I didn’t know:

Hexcrusher.

Turns out he’s kind of a badass with a SID chip and old 8-bit sounds, and lucky for you, he’s playing with Gary B (Gayle Gold) on Saturday the 16th at End of An Ear Records (2209 S. 1st Street). The whole concept of re-appropriating old technology for new music isn’t ground-breaking or anything, but man, Hexcrusher sure knows how to squeeze out some fucking good sounds.

Other Texas chippies, if you’re curious:
Yatagarasu (also playing with Hexcrusher and Gary B. I think)
Treewave
…way more than I probably know. Post some. I’m craving this shit.
