A Performance in 10 Hz by Loren Dent

TONIGHT

Performance starts @ 9 PM Sharp [35 Min]

This performance will attempt to provide participants with altered states of consciousness through the use of a stroboscopic film and composed sound, both at 10 Hz. The project is inspired by the Dreamachine, a device developed by Brion Gyson and Ian Sommerville in 1961, which utilized research on the relationship between alpha brain waves and consciousness.

Gyson, a contemporary of William Burroughs, described the Dreamachine as “the first art object to be viewed with the eyes closed.” Following this concept, Loren Dent will present 35 minutes of his composed music altered by filter to emit 10 Hz sounds that will work alongside the stroboscopic projection to facilitate alpha brain stimulation.

A word of caution: anyone with epilepsy or any nervous disorder should avoid participating. One out of 10,000 people experience a seizure during stroboscopic exposure.

Significantly aided by computational technology, contemporary society has become increasingly adept at replicating/duplicating products, environments, and exact outcomes of prior experience.

Is this drive to duplicate/replicate products, environments, and outcomes of prior experience (a major motivating force behind industrial manufacturing, chain restaurants/chain stores and science among other examples not considered) at odds with the unique individual and a less predictable reality, or are such ideas as the unique individual and a less predictable reality simply myths perpetuated by less organized and undisciplined members of humanity and that in truth, the drive to successfully duplicate/replicate products, environments, and exact outcomes of prior experience is, like biological reproduction itself, integral to humanity’s continuance?

Renee Robin Riddle

Is Renee Robin Riddle the new Madonna?

Except total DIY style; Riddle writes all the songs and plays guitar, keyboards, and sings.

Casio driven and 80’s inspired, Renee Robin Riddle’s first full-length solo album “My Modern Life” made my modern day! This fresh self-release inspires you to dance and sing a long. There’s no way you won’t fall in love with Riddle’s voice. Recorded at Business Deal Record’s Bundyhill Studios, the smooth production is period perfect. The album features special guests: Pataphysics, Preston Damien Duke, Perry Gessler, and Tim Bond (oh and he also recorded and produced the album, and plays the tabla!).

Well it just so happens she’s playing tonight before she takes off to Tokyo so you better go!
She will also debut the video for one of the hottest tracks: “Tiger Night Attack”…

Church of the Friendly Ghost as Salvage Vanguard Theatre

The last performance I went to at SVT–|||||—>

By the end of it, nearly half of the audience was laying on the floor in the middle of the “stage”. Jacob Green, when introducing the show, said “please feel free to move around in the space.” And the show was totttalllly waayyy worth it if you ventured around. You could see the instrumentation and instrumentators much closer. I know because I sat there– far away from everything, then I got up, then I walked around, stretched, and even laid down– and it was fantastic to do all that latter. I don’t know if you’re familiar with SVT, the big theater in the back, but it’s a deep dark space with stadium seating. Also an amazing space for happenings.

There were 7 people in the performance, it was dark, and they were spread out around the walls. Sporadic lights through shimmery water were just once of the scarce and transient sources of light. It felt to me like camping in the desert Wadi Rum Jordon– except underwater, and also you are in a more epic version of Bladerunner.
