DETROIT-born and built on love in 1996, sophisticated shoegazers Le Ren were formed when Nardo rocked the 4-track with tones that filled the sky with stars. Now based out of Austin, TX Le Ren is on a mission, although it can’t be explained... it may never be… One thing Le Ren can say is love, love, love...
Austin ambient experimentalist Douglas Ferguson can be described as such:
“Insert the inviolable disc, neophyte, and press play. Now close your eyes and visualize the one true Douglas Ferguson. Mark that he placidly maintains the full lotus, unwavering beneath the wild ragged locks of an ascetic, and sporting some very hip boots. He floats effortlessly atop the glassy surface of a deep singing flow of quicksilver drone wider than big muddy, churning and rolling just as darkly beneath. Notice no clouding of his brow as the flow quickens upon entering a narrow, twisting gorge. Now hear the ghosts of laughing melodies reverberating between rock faces over the raging river. No fear, your pulse will resume as Douglas pilots the mercury surge through a gently widening delta, spreading across the endless mirrored plane of a polished ocean, under the pale light of a rising moon.”

Well, I wish I would have know earlier that these guys were playing last night at Mohawk. It was the best live show I’ve ever seen. Period. Jesus H Darwin. They started the night by SETTING THE DRUMS ON FIRE, and then picked up all their instruments and played them in every conceivable corner of Mohawk, allowing no person to be unmolested by Israeli sweat and awesomeness.
Then… they left the building and played in the middle of Red River. Yeah. The crowd picked up the drums and the drummer kept playing the moving set. I just don’t know if I can ever have any higher expectations.

Oh Pimp
This friday is the start of a Hype Headz weekly at Black & Tan(located on 7th & Trinity) that is going to last throughout the scary month of Halloween and—hopefully—continue from there.
Every friday will host OH PIMP: a night of Hype Headz (DEEJAY YAYYAY, Tummy Toast, Max Ferrari) & special guest performances with the best in fidget, techhouse, speedgarage, minimal, italo disco, cosmic, acid, flash, & chicago house. Visuals done by Shiny Kid!
As for October 3rd, it is the special release of Tummy Toast’s music video, “Glam Jam,” which has been directed by Shiny Kid Caitlin Diaz. Valley music & art collective, Cul n Sweet, are also going to be mixing. Come out and see if you can keep up with the fancy footwork of the night.
