The connection between the bands playing this free Tuesday night show appears to be “music as assault.” There isn’t a single band in this lineup afraid to get ugly, whether it’s Mutating Meltdown’s anti-consumerist synth-organ squelch or ELVIS’ in-your-face apathy. Low Red Center and Coma In Algiers both take cues from proto-industrial alienators Cabaret Voltaire, and though Diagonals’ angular surf guitars and tuneful Farfisa leads might mark them as the odd band out, one look at the lyric sheet for “Neil Diamond Blues”—which details the Jewish Elvis’ preference to fuck, run, and leave the girl his “whole paycheck”—proves the band can offend with the best of ‘em.
